The situation in this country
Belgium missed the 2 August 2025 deadline and as of late July 2026 still had no formally designated market surveillance authority. The federal coalition agreement of early 2025 foresees central coordination by BIPT supporting sectoral supervisors; the FPS Economy coordinates the rollout and is preparing legislation that still needs parliamentary approval. Until then, AI Act rights in Belgium can only be enforced through the courts. An extra complication is that it is unclear who supervises AI in education and employment services (regional competences).

Belgium still without AI supervisor, legislation in preparation
As national enforcement of the transparency rules became active, the FPS Economy confirmed that BIPT is to become Belgium's AI watchdog, but only after parliamentary approval of the implementing legislation. There is no official complaints desk yet; complaints can only go through the courts or the European AI Act Service Desk.
