The situation in this country

The Portuguese government designated ANACOM on 19 September 2025 as national market surveillance authority and single point of contact for the AI Act, after missing the 2 August 2025 deadline. ANACOM coordinates cooperation with sectoral authorities, including Banco de Portugal, the CMVM and data protection authority CNPD. Portugal is implementing the directly applicable regulation without a standalone national AI law; a national sanctions framework has not yet been published. In June and July 2026 ANACOM consulted on draft recommendations concerning the Article 5 prohibited practices. No AI Act fine or formal investigation is known.
