The situation in this country
Through a memorandum of 12 March 2026 the Romanian government designated ANCOM as market surveillance authority and single point of contact, with sectoral roles for ASF and BNR (financial services), ANSPDCP (biometrics, law enforcement, migration, justice and democratic processes) and ADR as notifying authority. On 24 July 2026 ANCOM confirmed that the national implementing law with supervision and sanctioning procedures is still being drafted and that national enforcement can only start once that law enters into force. The AI Act itself applies directly in the meantime.

ANCOM publishes state of play of the implementation framework just before 2 August 2026
In a press release ANCOM confirmed its role as market surveillance authority and national contact point and explained the sectoral division of roles. The authorities are still working on the national legislative framework with cooperation and sanctioning procedures; enforcement action can only follow once that national law has entered into force.

Government memorandum designates ANCOM as market surveillance authority and national contact point
The Romanian government adopted a memorandum on the designation of the national competent authorities for the AI Act. ANCOM becomes market surveillance authority and single point of contact, ASF and BNR cover financial services, ANSPDCP covers sensitive domains such as biometrics and law enforcement, and ADR becomes the notifying authority.
