Definition
AI systems that pose a significant risk to health, safety, or fundamental rights of persons. Article 6 has two routes: AI in a product or as a safety component under the product legislation of Annex I, and AI used for an Annex III purpose, such as biometrics, critical infrastructure, education, employment, credit assessment and law enforcement. High-risk systems must meet requirements for risk management, data quality, transparency and human oversight; for Annex III these apply from 2 December 2027, for Annex I from 2 August 2028.
