Our interpretation

Our own reading. It can change without the law changing, and it is not the position of a supervisory authority.

The notifying authority is not your point of contact and does not supervise you. It approves the assessors. That distinction is often missed in the market: companies approach the notifying authority when they should be dealing with the market surveillance authority. For most organisations the practical significance is indirect but real: as long as Member States have designated few bodies, capacity is limited for the systems that do require external assessment.
